Compass Community Living | Royal Oaks
The Royal Oaks project in Sun City, AZ, is a transformative renovation of a senior living community designed to enhance the dining experience to foster a sense of community, encourage social engagement, and elevate residents’ quality of life. This innovative project features multiple dining venues, each offering its own unique atmosphere and culinary offerings, including a market, coffee shop, bar, bistro and grill, expo kitchen, and private dining/wine room.
The renovation’s core goal was to shift dining from a routine activity to a memorable, engaging experience. The design emphasizes flexibility featuring intimate seating arrangements, and a layout that fosters connection and interaction among residents and staff. Integrated technology, like self-order kiosks and an online ordering platform, plays a key role in enhancing operational efficiency while creating resident independence.

Royal Oaks prioritizes interactivity and engagement. The Expo kitchen is equipped with a rotating EVO grill and live broadcasting capabilities for cooking demonstrations, creating a dynamic, community-focused experience. Additionally, the bar extends the culinary journey outdoors, seamlessly connecting interior and exterior spaces to offer a versatile and engaging dining atmosphere.
To ensure minimal disruption during the renovation, the project was divided into three phases, allowing two-thirds of the dining venues to remain operational. Temporary partitions were carefully designed and installed and met life safety requirements, while an on-site construction management superintendent maintained continuous communication with the owner to ensure resident and staff safety, allowing the community to continue serving residents with minimal disruption.
The Royal Oaks renovation delivers a vibrant, welcoming environment that elevates senior living dining, providing exceptional dining experiences and creating a sense of belonging for all who live, work, and visit the community. This project exemplifies how thoughtful design can elevate both the dining experience and the quality of life for residents.
