Infill Philadelphia: Soak It Up Winner!
Spiezle/Urban/MNLA team wins first place in commercial retail retrofit
The Infill Philadelphia: Soak it Up! design competition challenged architects, landscape architects, and engineers to show how green stormwater infrastructure can transform Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. The innovative designs generated through the competition will serve as prototypes for green stormwater infrastructure throughout Philadelphia and the country, illustrate potential public/private partnerships, and aid property owners in seeing the return on green infrastructure investment.
The final presentation of the Infill Philadelphia: SoakItUp stormwater competition was held at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. The Spiezle Architectural Group, Inc./ Urban Engineers Inc./ Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects team won first place in the category for commercial retail retrofit. There were three categories and each winner receives $10,000.
This is a great accomplishment that utilized the skills and ingenuity of professionals across disciplines to provide a viable solution to a very real problem. A special thank you goes out to Bob Kauffmann for spearheading this effort on Spiezle’s behalf.
InFill Philadelphia: Soak It Up is a partnership of the Philadelphia Water Department, US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Community Design Collaborative focused on revitalizing urban neighborhoods through the adaption of green storm water infrastructure in the Philadelphia region.
