Heather Long Featured in Women in The AEC Industry Spotlight
In a feature story published in Building Enclosure Magazine, Heather Long shares that her early creative abilities propelled her into a career in design. Heather believes it is incumbent upon architects and interior designers to improve existing spaces and fashion new environments that promote social equity and inclusiveness—and women are at the forefront of this drive.
“I like to think about design from the perspective of the people who will be experiencing the space and how they will feel,” she said. “As a woman, I’m less afraid to be vulnerable in the thought process.”
Among her favorite projects she has worked on so far, Heather cites the Center for LGBTQ+ Health for Cooper University Health Care, where she and the Spiezle team created a safe and inclusive physician practice environment for members of the LGBTQ+ community in New Jersey.
Heather also speaks about the importance of having mentors.
“The best mentors are those who challenge me to push myself out of my comfort zone and be bold,” she said, adding that, for other women joining the profession now, they should “find a great mentor, be a problem solver, stand up for yourself, and know your worth.”
