Celebrating Seven Decades of Success!
As we wind down our 70th year, we’d like to celebrate seven decades over the next seven days. Check out our page to see the history and highlights of how we got to where we are today!
Day 1: 1954 – 1964 – The Foundation
Our journey began in 1954, when Spiezle was founded in Trenton, NJ as Franklyn B. Spiezle Associates, with the goal of providing high quality architectural design. Franklyn Spiezle established a commitment to quality and integrity that still guides us today. #Spiezle70 #DesigningSince1954 #FoundingDecade
Day 2: 1964 – 1974 – Expanding Education Throughout the sixties and seventies, Spiezle built the foundation for our educational design practice. We began partnering with schools throughout the State of New Jersey to shape the future of education through thoughtful architectural design. #Spiezle70 #1960sMilestones #BuildingLegacies
Day 3: 1974 – 1984 – Building Community
Spiezle has had diverse markets since its inception. In the 70’s and early 80’s we worked on various projects throughout the tri-State area, including schools, community centers, fire houses, and municipal buildings. #Spiezle70 #SustainableDesign #PioneersInArchitecture
Day 4: 1984 – 1994 – Embracing Technology
AutoCAD transformed the architecture industry in the 80’s. During that time, Scott Spiezle spent his evenings teaching AutoCAD to staff, and by 1992 we had fully adopted the technology, and installed our first network cable – transforming our workflow and enhancing our design capabilities. In 1990 Scott Spiezle became the CEO. #Spiezle70 #DigitalEra #ArchitecturalInnovation
Day 5: 1994 – 2004 – The Next Generation
Scott Spiezle took over the focused approach to the business, following in his father’s footsteps. Scott grew the firm to sixty people in three offices, diversifying into new markets. The 1990s marked a focus on community-centric projects, including schools, libraries, and public spaces that continue to serve their communities today. Building connections through design became our cornerstone. #Spiezle70 #CommunityFirst #DesigningWithPurpose
Day 6: 2004 – 2014 – Becoming an ESOP
In 2004, the company began its transition to an ESOP and in 2007, Spiezle became a 100% employee-owned firm. It was that same year that the name was changed to Spiezle Architectural Group, Inc. – our current name. We expanded our footprint nationwide, bringing our expertise to new cities and reaching more clients. This decade solidified our place as industry leaders, and we achieved our first AIA Firm of the Year recognition in 2012. #Spiezle70 #StrategicGrowth #SpiezleArchitecturalGroup
Day 7: 2014 – 2024 – People. Passion. Purpose
In the last 10 years, with our current President & CEO Thomas Perrino taking the helm, we’ve further expanded our markets, service offerings and geography. We’ve doubled in size and gathered numerous awards for our designs, including being named AIA NJ Firm of the Year, for the second time, in 2023. As we look back at our 70 years, we can’t help but be incredibly proud. From our first project groundbreaking, our commitment to innovation, creativity and sustainable design has only grown stronger. We owe our success to our incredible clients, collaborators and hard-working and talented employee-owners who have been part of this incredible journey. Thank you for being part of our story! #Spiezle70 #FutureForward #70YearsStrong #peoplepassionpurpose
